St. Patrick’s Weekend at King John's Castle
King Johns Castle will host a fun filled event for all the family on Sunday 19th March from 1 to 4pm. Activities on the day will include an interactive quiz with our castle animators, archery, art workshops with souvenir medallion making and much more
European Day of Early Music at King Johns Castle with association with RTE Lyric FM
Join us at King John’s Castle and explore the medieval world in association with RTÉ lyric fm from 4-7pm
On March 21st, King Johns Castle in association with RTE Lyric FM welcomes guests to a very special event celebrating European Day of Early Music with a live broadcast of Lorcan Murray's Classic Drive from King John’s Castle Visitor Centre. This very special Spring Spraoi will feature live music from Kathleen Loughnane (harp), The Gregory Walkers, medieval violin player Michelle O'Connor along with a range of fascinating characters from the period including medieval knights and jesters, archery, art workshops for the kids and more.
As part of this event we are also delighted to welcome MA Ritual Chant and Song Students of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick to the venue for a unique and special performance!
Visitors can also enjoy reenactments on the day from the Norman period, Desmond Rebellion, Cromwellian and Jacobite Wars.

June Bank Holiday Weekend - 3rd, 4th and 5th June
Muggles Magic and Wizardry at King John's Castle
King Johns Castle will be a hive of activity this June Bank Holiday weekend as not one, not two but three unique events take place over the course of the weekend.
Kicking off on Saturday June 3rd visitors are invited to come along and experience a celebration of medieval life at our "A Norman Life" event. Highlights on the day will include shows, talks and demonstrations in living history on fashion, music, clothing as well as weaponry, battle attire and techniques from experts and specialist re- enactors.
Meantime on Sunday June 4th come along and learn all about traditional arts and crafts at our Heritage Demonstrations. Master craftsmen and women will be on hand throughout the day showcasing their skills in bow and arrow making, basket weaving, sugan rope making, calligraphy, stone carving and much more.
However the highlight of the weekend's festivities is undoubtedly our Muggles Magic and Wizardry Event taking place on Bank Holiday Monday June 5th.
Visitors are invited to hop on their broomstick and be enchanted by our wonderful world of wizardry and magic. There will be spells, magic potions, and even a few creatures of the dark.....
Come along dressed as your favorite Hatter Potter character and enjoy lots of themed games, activities and entertainment in this enchanting and spellbinding setting.
Take in "The Tales of Beedle the Bard” in the castle chapel or test your Hatter Potter Knowledge in our fan quiz taking place in the siege shelter
Indeed if you consider yourself a budding magician make your way towards the armoury for our Magic & Wizardy show performed by the castle's very own wizard.

Birds of Prey and a Day in the Life of Bunratty Folk Park Farmer
Be transported back in time and learn about the traditions of country living at Bunratty Folk Park with our resident farmer as he does his rounds.
Accompany the farmer as he feeds the animals and gives some information about each animal, their breed, their traits, their feed, etc. See the washing and grooming of the Connemara pony and all about the art of building a corn stack in the Haggard
Also on the day experience the magic of flying most of the most amazing birds including eagles, hawks and owls, freely to the glove and observe them in flightmeet our expert.
Try your hand at archery and let our expert instructors show you how to hold the bow and arrow and fire with precision like a true Olympian

Carnival at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park
Roll up, Roll up, Roll up ..come and join the Carnival at Bunratty Folk Park on Sunday June 18th from 11am to 5pm. Located on the lawns of idyllic Bunratty House experience a host of traditional carnival games and novelities including Coconut shy, Hoopla, Rifle range, Whack a Rat, Giant buzzer, Test of strength, Smash a can, a range of Giant games and more. Marvel at a kaleidoscope of colour with raised stalls and stripped awnings. Each booth is manned by a colourful barker just waiting to cheer you on!!
A fantastic way to spend an afternoon with the family, bring back some nostalgic memories and of course create new ones all in this wonderful woodland setting!
Birds of Prey, Archery and Falconry at King Johns Castle

1798 Rebellion Re- enactment & Living History at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park
In 1798 Irish Men and Women with the help of their French allies rose against English rule for over 4 months, leaving between 20,000 and 50,000 dead. This Rebellion involved the soldiers of the United Irishmen, France and Great Britain. Through a mix of Living History and Re-enactments*, discover the reasons behind the Rebellion, the battles fought and the aftermath. Event highlights are 1798 Rebellion in Ireland and an eviction scene. There will also be a harrowing arrest scene highlighting the unjust rental laws which dominated Irish history for a long period. Experience the sights, sounds and smells of the 1798 Rebellion and an eviction scene of the period with visiting Re-enactors from around Ireland in association with Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. This will be an interactive, educational and entertaining experience. *Living History, talks and tours of the soldiers camps will take place on Saturday July 14th – the battle re-enactments will take place on Sunday 15th with two battles using musket fire.

Lughnasa Festival at Craggaunowen

‘Lughnasa’, is a festival in honour of the Celtic God Lugh of the Tuatha de Danann, God of arts and crafts, and it marks the start of the harvest season. Lughnasa is a petition to the divine for a successful harvest marking the first day of autumn, and thus the start of the harvest season. Enjoy “Fun with the Fleadh at Bunratty Folk Park” from Sunday August 13th to Sunday August 20st. Visitors from the Fleadh are welcome to join in the Fleadh celebrations with our animators at Bunratty Folk Park. Have your photo taken with our fantastic musicians and animators and join in the fun of a live seisun and a dance every day at 2.30p.m. Celebrate our wonderful Irish traditions in this great cultural landmark. Listen to the sounds of the harp, accordion, fiddle, tin whistle, bodhran and banjo. Learn about our Irish dancing tradition and you might even learn a step or two! Great fun for all the family.

Scythian - Celtic -Hun Horseback Archery at King John's Castle
Enjoy astounding demonstrations of centuries old horseback and ground archery. Experience an array of throwing and fencing with ancient weapons including sabre, hammar axe, pickaxe, lance and reflex bow. Presented by Zoltan Gere an expert in the ancient martial art of Archery, and Horseback archery. Zoltan is an accomplished student of the world famous Kassai, the number one Horseback Archer in the world.
Traditional Harvest Day at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park
A highlight of the day is the vintage threshing machine in the haggard at the Folk Park. You can watch the crew of farmers at work, demonstrating the art of threshing, as they separate the grain from the sheaves.
