The business of Shannon Development is regional economic development – a complex process embracing all sectors of activity and utilising multiple processes to achieve the vision of a world class region. We must strengthen the more developed areas of the Shannon Region; ensure that the potential of the less developed areas is realised and drive demand for Shannon International Airport. Critically, Shannon Development’s property portfolio, together with the revenue and capital monies that it generates, positions us to play a key role in driving development throughout the region.
We concentrate our efforts, on delivering results in four key areas which can have significant economic impact locally, regionally and nationally i.e. Flagship Projects; Shannon Free Zone; Tourism Development and Property Development.
Shannon Development focuses on investing its resources in planning and developing initiatives of a significant scale, innovation and impact to drive development in the Shannon Region. Projects include the Shannon Development Knowledge Network; eTowns; Shannon Broadband; Kerry Deepwater Zone and Tourism Flagship Projects. All of these projects are well underway and already delivering impact.
Shannon Free Zone is one of Ireland’s leading locations for international business investment - a key goal for Shannon Development is to ensure that the Zone’s global brand recognition as a core location for investment in a world class region continues to grow. In addition to a wide ranging physical regeneration of the Free Zone, we intend to win new and expansion investment by building on its unique and successful record.
As the Regional Tourism Authority for the Shannon Region, Shannon Development continues to focus on making this region a ‘must visit’ region for tourists. Our activities focus on developing innovative tourism product; effective marketing of the Shannon Region in the context of the West of Ireland and Shannon International Airport, and operating Shannon Heritage.
We are actively developing, enhancing and leveraging, our extensive Property portfolio to ensure the provision of leading edge enterprise infrastructure throughout the Shannon Region, to drive the delivery of key projects in the Shannon Region, and to generate the revenue and capital to operate the Company and deliver flagship initiatives without recourse to Exchequer funds.
Our challenge is to lead and drive the broader regional economic development of the Shannon Region across all areas of economic activity working in partnership with the people of the Shannon Region, government, other public bodies and the private sector.
